Family Travel Question:

Q | What are some affordable destinations in New England?

I am looking for an inexpensive place to go in August with my three-year-old twins. We want to drive so we can bail if it is a complete disaster. What are some affordable destinations around the New England/East Coast area? Also, how do sleeping arrangements work with two small twins? -Krista, CT

We spend a lot of time exploring our home state of Vermont. Located in the Upper Central Valley, families will find Woodstock and Quechee. In these picturesque towns you can have a traditional country breakfast at the Mountain Creamy Restaurant, or stop into cute shops like the Red Wagon Toy Co. It is just a short drive to nearby attractions like Billings Farm, the Montshire Museum, Sugarbush Cheese and Maple Farm, the Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS), and Simon Pearce.

We have stayed at the renovated, Holiday Inn Club Vacations at Ascutney Mountain Resort. This moderately priced hotel offers one, two and three bedroom villas. Rates start at $129-199 for a two-bedroom. Families should consider this hotel an ideal option if they want to spend time exploring classic New England towns, enjoying multiple outdoor recreational opportunities, and visiting local farms and museums. This property is ideally situated to take advantage of nearby family fun, year-round.
