Family Travel Question:
Q | Can you suggest any warm places for a multigenerational family based in Europe and the U.S. to visit over the Christmas holidays?
We are an multigenerational family living in France, the Netherlands, and the United States. Can you suggest any warm places for us to visit over the Christmas holiday? We would be leaving for our destination from Europe. -Charlotte
A | Think Cancun for a warm family Christmas
When I think about fun destinations for a family that are also warm, I think about Cancun and the Mexican Riviera located on the Yucatan Peninsula. Our family recently escaped the brutal cold of a New York winter with a trip to the Yucatan and had a fabulous time.
In addition to the wonderful beaches, golf courses, and snorkeling/diving opportunities located around the Yucatan Peninsula, the resorts in Cancun and Playa del Carmen are close to the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza and Tulum. Eco-tourists can visit the Sian Ka’an Biosphere or swim in a cenote at Xplor. And if your family just wants to relax and sip margaritas by the pool, then the weather will be perfect.
Transportation-wise, there are several direct flights from Europe (KLM, Lufthansa, and Air France to name a few) into Mexico City, allowing for an easy connection to Cancun and bypassing the need to go through customs in the United States.
