Family Travel Question:
Q | Any recommendations for places to stay in Philly?
Can you give us a recommendation for accommodations in Philly? Something close to the attractions, yet affordable. We'd prefer a suite or at least something with a microwave/refrig. Thanks! -Cindy, MN
A | Family accommodations in Philadelphia
We drove from Minnesota to Philadelphia a few years ago, and we enjoyed our stay at the Homewood Suites near Valley Forge. It’s an all-suite hotel that is family-friendly, and there are stores and restaurants nearby for provisions or meals out.
It’s a five-minute drive from Valley Forge, and thus a bit farther from the downtown attractions; we found that it took 30-45 minutes to reach the historic and museum areas. There is also a train station near the hotel that may be an option if you prefer not to drive.
While it’s not as close to all of the Philadelphia attractions, we found it to be centrally located to many of the things we wanted to do in the area. The hotel is also within an hour’s drive of Gettysburg, the Crayola Factory, and the Sesame Street amusement park, and on the morning after Christmas we were able to drive to the Statue of Liberty in just 90 minutes. Washington Crossing and Hershey are also easily driveable.
