There are lots of options for a fun family vacation close to Atlanta. Whether you want to spend a week or just get away for a few days.
Dahlonega is the site of the country’s first gold rush. In addition to panning for gold, enjoy hiking to the seven waterfalls in the area. Pine Mountain is home to Callaway Gardens Resort and Spa, although on a recent trip there, we opted to camp instead at Franklin Delano Roosevelt State Park where the highlight for my boys was horseback riding. I also highly recommend the Pine Mountain Wild Animal Safari – spring for the Zebra truck.
Just outside the city limits in Stone Mountain Park. They have various accommodations and different activities year round. If you have tweens or teens, they might enjoy Durhamtown Plantation for ATV and motorcycle riding (the Ritz Carlton at Lake Oconee is close if you need more posh accommodations)
Have fun – I’m always amazed at how much there is to do in Georgia.
