When traveling especially in a big city, eating out at local restaurants or food markets can be a fun and easy way to pass some time with kids. During our trip to Bangkok, we escaped the heat to the cold air of the huge food court at the major shopping center. And don’t let your experience of food courts in America taint your expectation of food courts in Asia. Food courts in Thailand are a one-stop shop for Thais. You will be able to enjoy varieties of food that are not only cheap but safe for weak, untrained stomach as well. Our kids enjoyed¬†cheap and family-friendly food in Bangkok while we took advantage of an easy day of some people watching.

Another option is to find local library where you can enjoy quiet time with great books and a couple hours of escaping from the craziness of the city. We did this at the library in the basement of the¬†Bangkok Art & Cultural Center. There’s a special room just for kids. It’s a perfect place to spend a couple hours away from the heat and the bustling of the city. And of course the best part is that it’s free!
