Family Travel Question:
Q | Can you recommend an affordable place to vacation with a large family?
Where is a good cheap place for me and my six kids to go on a vacation? -Paula, Illinois
A | St. Louis: A cheap midwest family destination
You and I are in similar situations. I have four kids and cost is one of the primary factors in planning our travel. Everything costs more when multiplied by six, seven, or eight.
Since you’re from Illinois, I’ll recommend one of my favorite Midwest destinations: St. Louis, Missouri. Not only is it within reasonable driving distance, but a lot of the things to do there are free.
Grant’s Farm, the science museum, and a tour of the Anheuser-Busch brewery are among the free things to do. While you’d have to pay admission to go up in the arch, seeing it from outside (and maybe even visiting the museum inside) have no cost. I planned a family vacation to St. Louis a few years ago that we ultimately were not able to take, but perhaps it will give you a few ideas.
In St. Louis, you’ll save money by staying on the outskirts. I even looked at some campgrounds that were within a 45-minute drive to the downtown area, to save a little more.
Enjoy your vacation, wherever you end up!
