What are some good places to take a two- and a four-year-old in California? -Jess, CA
A | Things to do with toddlers in Northern California
You will find that there are plenty of things to do with a toddler while taking a family vacation in Northern California. I know from experience, that toddlers love redwood trees, beaches, trolley cars, and the best aquarium in the whole world (so maybe I’m a little biased).
San Francisco Bay area
Spend the day in Golden Gate Park: visit the Rainforest Exhibit in the California Academy of Sciences, stroll the Japanese Tea Gardens, and check out the carousel at the Children’s Playground. Little zoo lovers will love to visit Hasani, a young gorilla, at the San Francisco Zoo. The Bay Area Discovery Museum, across the Golden Gate Bridge in the city of Sausalito, has excellent exhibits just for toddlers.
You won’t have to travel far from a big city to take your toddler for a hike through a redwood forest: head north of San Francisco to Muir Woods National Monument, or go south to Henry Cowell State Park in the Santa Cruz mountains.
Monterey Bay area
In Monterey, toddlers will love the otters and the toddler activity areas at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Rent a surrey bike for a ride down the paths through Cannery Row to Fisherman’s Wharf, and all the way down to Dennis the Menace Park.
