Family Travel Question:

Q | Can you recommend an affordable rental in Maui?

Any recommendations for a two-day rental in Maui? We are two adults with teens and want to avoid resorts like the Ritz or Hilton -Deborah, IL

Fancy hotels and big chains have their place but I can understand your interest in opting into something a bit less corporate for your time in Maui. There are two properties on island that I found left my family feeling less like a tourist. The Kaanapali Beach Hotel is often referred to as Hawaii’s most Hawaiian hotel. The resort staff take pride and ownership in their ability to use the property to teach authentic Hawaiian culture to their guests. Everything from hula dancing to lanai making is taught without the kitschy overtones you might find at a larger chain. We  liked the fact that there are onsite laundry facilities and sweeping grounds just off the beach. Your teens will like that they are minutes (walking) from the  hub of tourist traffic and the souvenir shopping they might enjoy.

Our second experience was at the Napili Kai Beach Club. This secluded oceanfront property has condo units and sits on ten acres of white sand beach around Napili Bay. Families love this property and your kids will likely meet others here who’ve  been coming annually for years. The restaurants and shopping will require a bit longer walk down the beach but you’re rewarded by a gorgeous unobstructed view that you’ll love waking up to and a kitchen to help offset some of the food costs that growing teens can cause. The hardest part about both properties? Packing up to leave them.
