Family Travel Question:

Q | Can you recommend any websites with reasonably priced flights to Puerto Rico?

My family is going to Puerto Rico for the Christmas holiday, and it seems like every booking site I visit just gets more and more expensive. Do you recommend any websites with cheap flights? -Rachel, FL

This is a question we get all the time, and a very good one.  You could easily drive yourself crazy browsing, checking, and comparing for weeks.  Or you could use I never remember quite what Yapta stands for, but I know “your personal travel assistant” is in there somewhere. Basically they track flights and issue refunds for various airlines if the price of your ticket goes down after you buy it.  Awesome.

My family is going to Hawaii next summer on United Airlines. Most of us are traveling on miles, but we needed to buy one ticket.  If we wait for fares to go down, we might not get seats together (which is not okay with me).

So, we bought the ticket for $1,135 (ouch) and registered with Yapta. They send us regular emails letting us know if fares have gone up or down and by how much.  If they go down by more than $150, we get a travel voucher from United for the difference.  Other airlines have lower thresholds, like $75 and $100 (you can find all the details here:  Airline refunds).

If  one of the eleven participating airlines flies to Puerto Rico and you’re absolutely committed to going, I’d say buy the tickets now, register with Yapta, and keep your fingers crossed.
